Somebody will always quote you forty dollars to install an amplifier.
Here is what forty dollars buys. The power wire gets run through the door jamb where the door closes on it. It gets grounded wherever was closest, or not grounded properly at all. The turn-on signal gets taken by wrapping a bare wire around a fuse and jamming it back in the fuse box. Nothing is loomed. Nothing is fused correctly at the battery.
Then it cuts out. Then it stops working. Then, sometimes, it burns.
And when that car comes to us, we cannot fix it. There is nothing to fix. It has to be gutted and done again from scratch, and the customer pays a second time — more than our price would have been the first time.
We have watched this happen for twenty years. It is the single most common story that walks through our door. That is why we do not compete on being the cheapest install in Los Angeles. We compete on being the last one you have to pay for.
Every amplifier that leaves our bay is built the same way, whether it is going in a brand-new Range Rover or a 1989 Honda Civic. Every car gets the same treatment.
Monoblock — a single-channel amplifier driving your subwoofer. This is the bass build, and it is the job we do more than any other.
Four-channel — one amplifier running your full set of speakers. This is the biggest labor job in car audio. Some vehicles, particularly BMW and Mercedes, need a full rewire and a processor to do it correctly.
Five-channel — speakers and subwoofer on one chassis. One amplifier, one power run, a complete system.
